Astromedia Ferris Wheel – the perfect gift for engineers!
This amazing Ferris wheel construction kit from Astromedia allows you to build a beautiful – and fully functional – Ferris wheel that makes for a lovely display. Construction of the model is a fun and educational process, which is great for teaching young ones about engineering!
The Ferris wheel can be powered by the Astromedia Steam Engine, or the Astromedia Stirling Engine!
It stands in the tradition of tin models meant to be driven by toy steam engines produced for the children of wealthy families at the end of the 19th century. To make sure it can be driven by the moderate power of the Astromedia Steam Engine, the construction minimises friction as much as possible and includes a gear reduction of 15:1.
That means that the diameter of the driving wheel fitted to the ferris wheel is 15 times as large as the diameter of the one fitted to the crank shaft of the Steam Engine or Stirling Engine.
Curious Minds Fun Fact: The first sketch of a Ferris wheel was drawn on a cocktail napkin at an engineer’s banquet in 1891 by George W. Ferris the future inventor of the Ferris wheel!
